Bariatric Treatment
When diet and exercise are ineffective for long-term weight management, patients with severe or morbid obesity may be recommended bariatric surgery (also called bariatric treatment). The primary objective of bariatric procedures is to reduce the stomach’s functional capacity and/or alter nutrient absorption, supporting sustained weight loss, improvement in obesity-related conditions (like type 2 diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea), and overall quality of life.
At Elix Meditours, we connect patients with experienced bariatric surgeons and accredited hospitals across India, helping you choose the right procedure, hospital, and pre/post-operative care plan. Our partner hospitals include leading centres such as Max Healthcare, Artemis Health Institute, Apollo Hospitals, and other high-quality institutes.
Common Bariatric Procedures
- Laparoscopic Gastric Banding: A minimally invasive procedure where an adjustable band is placed on the upper part of the stomach to create a small pouch, restricting food intake so you feel full sooner.
- Gastric Bypass (Open Surgery): The stomach is made smaller and connected directly to the jejunum (part of the small intestine), reducing the amount of food you can eat and the calories absorbed.
- Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass: The same physiological effect as open gastric bypass but performed through small incisions using a laparoscope, often allowing quicker recovery and less post-op pain.
- Gastric Sleeve Surgery (Sleeve Gastrectomy): Approximately 75–85% of the stomach is removed, leaving a narrow sleeve. This permanent procedure reduces stomach volume and impacts hunger hormones.
- Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass: A common type of gastric bypass that creates a small stomach pouch and reroutes food to bypass part of the small intestine, resulting in reduced calorie absorption and intake.
Besides surgical options, many centres offer a comprehensive obesity-management pathway including medical evaluation, dietetic support, behavioural therapy, and structured post-operative rehabilitation. Our EMR-enabled partner hospitals provide secure access to your medical records no matter where you are, making follow-up easier and more convenient.
